ACWA Power received the Secretary General of the United Nations, António Guterres, along with Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, and Yousef Saleh Algahrah Al-Otaibi, Saudi Arabian Ambassador, at the Tashkent Riverside project site recently. The distinguished guests visited the 200 MW PV installation and 500 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) facility located at Tashkent Riverside. During the visit, the delegates were provided with insights into the innovative technologies and sustainable energy solutions implemented at the Tashkent Riverside facility. This greenfield development incorporates solar and BESS components to lend stability to the Uzbek power grid, which, until now, has relied on energy from conventional sources. According to project proponents, this will be the largest BESS in Central Asia. “This landmark project sets a precedent for renewable energy initiatives in Uzbekistan and Central Asia. By harnessing solar power and innovative battery storage technology, we are contributing to the country's transition towards a more sustainable and resilient future,” said Marco Arcelli, chief executive officer of ACWA Power, while expressing his enthusiasm in welcoming the delegates.
