The Makkah region is seeing a heavy influx of big construction projects, with estimated value reaching more than US$283bn over the next years

The pipeline of upcoming construction projects in Makkah Region is the second largest in Saudi Arabia, after the Tabouk province. Some of the major projects include US$10bn Al Faisaliah City, US$8.7bn Jabal Al Sharashif Development and US$6bn Makkah Metro Phase 1, which is currently under the bidding process.

According to a MEED projects report, the value of planned projects in Saudi Arabia for the coming years is expected to be the highest in the GCC, standing at more than US$1.2 trillion. In 2018, the Makkah Region received approximately US$4bn worth of contracts.

Addressing this significant potential of the regional construction industry, the ninth edition of The Big 5 Saudi was held in Jeddah, comprising more than 50 high profile personalities, CEOs of construction companies, contractors, urban development and engineering consultancies.
