Major facelift planned for Madinah

Saudi Arabias holy city of Madinah will receive a major facelift with development projects being implemented there costing a total of more than US$26.6bn

At an exhibition showcased by Madinah Development Authority, a comprehensive development plan was revealed for Madinah.

Plans included a new expansion of the Prophet's Mosque, ordered by King Abdullah, which will increase the mosque's capacity to more than 1.6mn worshippers.

The expansion project is estimated to cost more than US$20bn with an additional US$6.6bn to be disbursed on land acquisition.

Meanwhile, Crown Prince Salman has signed a plan for constructing a road in Madinah that will bear his name.
