New mega-mall planned for Abu Dhabi

A US$1bn mall planned for construction in Abu Dhabi has been dubbed as the UAE capitals first "super regional urban shopping centre" by its developer

Gulf Related, a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi private equity firm Gulf Capital and US-based retail developer Related Companies, plans to construct a 214,000 square metre outlet next to the city's Sowwah Square financial centre.

The new complex, Sowwah Central, is expected to open in the spring of 2017. Related developed both the Time Warner Centre in New York and CityPlace in West Palm Beach in?Florida.

Kenneth Himmel, co-managing partner of Gulf Related, said the ambitious mega-mall project would become the region's premier one-stop destination for retail, leisure and dining.
