Construction will start in Q4 2012 on a US$98 million housing project in Simawah, Iraq, which will provide housing for 7,000 people
The Iraqi Ministry of Housing awarded Sama Al Douh Contracting and Real Estate Investments a contract to deliver the development, which will cover an area of 221,000 square metres and consist of a built-up area of 177,000 square metres.
Sama Al Douh selected RW Middle East to design and build the project, which will comprise of 1,308 homes, supporting infrastructure and landscaping.
RW Middle East managing director Ahmed Halet said, ?It is a design and build project where the development was designed around the traditional Iraqi family values.
?By choosing a modular building solution, residents can look forward to durable and attractive housing that will be built fast.?
According to the Halet, the development will also include a mosque, restaurants, educational and health facilities, and a cultural centre.
?We see this as the first of many new opportunities for modular residential construction in the region,? Halet remarked.
RW Middle East owner and chief executive officer Steve Weirich said each housing unit would be completed with interior finishes, electrics and plumbing.
