Iran has announced it hopes to begin construction of the second power unit of the Bushehr nuclear power plant with Russia in the near future
Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi said, "We have an agreement that the capacity of the nuclear power plant, which Russia will build in Iran, will be about 5,000 MW.
"The Bushehr nuclear power plant [currently] produces 1,000 MW, and 4,000 is yet to be produced.
"I hope that it will be possible to begin the construction of the second unit of the Bushehr nuclear plant in the near future," he added.
The construction of the nuclear power plant near Bushehr commenced in 1975.
Russia and Iran signed a deal in 1992 to co-operate on peaceful utilisation of nuclear energy.
