A contract to extend a 450mm-diameter water transmission network by 416km in Dubai has been awarded to an unnamed party by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)
The Dubai utility authority awarded the US$45.5mn contract to supply, implement and extend the network as part of its strategy to enhance the reliability of its water networks and increase the supply of water to fast-growing parts of the emirate.
DEWA managing director and CEO, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, remarked, "The main objective of the project is to enhance the efficiency of water transmission networks, and reduce water losses in transmission networks by renovating old household networks and extensions, increasing operational capacity and increasing water flow capacity to meet the sharp demand for water in various areas of Dubai."
The project, which will include the laying of 450mm-diameter water transmission pipes made of glass reinforced epoxy, has been scheduled for completion within a 26-month timeframe.
