Qatar Steel will build a new steel plant in the country to cope with the growing demand for steel in the Qatari market and the wider regional market.
Qatar Steel signed a contract with Siemens VAI to establish a new steel plant with the capacity of 1.1mn tonnes per year. The new plant will be set up adjacent to the old one and is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2013.
The plant will be equipped with ultra high power 110 tonnes electric arc furnace, 110 T ladle furnace and six strand high speed billet caster coupled with sophisticated fume extraction system for zero emission.
The plant will be designed based on the latest technology to ensure maximum output. Qatar Steel wants to make the steel manufacturing process most environment-friendly.
