Alimak Group to develop Al Wasl Plaza for Expo 2020 Dubai

Sweden-based Alimak Group has received an order from Cimolai Rimond Middle East to develop the Al Wasl Plaza in Expo 2020 Dubai site

The Al Wasl Plaza is expected to be topped by a dome trellis structure that is 67.5 metres tall and 130 metres wide.

After completion, the structure is set to consist of 13,600 metres of intricate steelwork and weigh 2,265 tonnes.

Under the terms of the agreement, Alimak Group?s CoxGomyl will supply, install, test and commission internal and external access equipment that will be used for maintaining and cleaning the special fabric elements which form the external skin of the structure.

According to the company, the system is scheduled to be completed by mid-2019.

CoxGomyl, Alimak Group?s building maintenance access unit, will collaborate with the lead architects to create an innovative bespoke access solution. This aims to ensure that all areas of the dome can be maintained while minimising the visual impact of the systems, said Tormod Gunleiksrud, CEO of Alimak Group.

Starting on 20 October 2020, Expo is expected to attract about 25mn visits from all around the world, 70 per cent from outside of the UAE.
