Bahrain will begin construction work on a new bridge connecting Muharraq and Arad in 2014
According to Muharraq municipal council deputy chairman Ali Al Moqla, ?The Works Ministry in Bahrain will implement the first phase of the 3km bridge, while a tender will be floated for the second phase.?
Arad is located on Muharraq Island, east of Muharraq City and northwest of Hidd.
The bridge will be expected to ease traffic congestion to and from the Bahrain International Airport as well as residential areas and public utilities in the area.
Bharain has also invested US$1.6bn for the Dilmunia project, a mixed-use project built on a man-made island off the coast of Muharraq.
Dilmunia will include residences, hotels, leisure and shopping districts, and provide residents and visitors with wellness facilities and spas.
