District cooling services provider Empower has presented a district cooling guide to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)
According to officials from Empower, the company has provided technical support to prepare the guide that has been published by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The guide is a comprehensive reference manual for the global district cooling industry, added officials.
The Dubai Supreme Council of Energy has launched the demand side management strategy, which has eight programmes to manage energy demand. The strategy also includes fitting buildings with district cooling facilities.
Saeed Al Tayer, CEO of DEWA, said, ?The strategy underlines the significance of Empower supporting ASHRAE in developing the District Cooling Manual. Dubai now is a leader among world cities that produce and use district cooling systems, with a total capacity of 1.7mn refrigeration tonnes.?
Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower added that district cooling has potential in the Middle East as the industry is relatively young. Owing to the reason, there is a need for definitive guidelines with technological specifications, he added.
Empower operates district cooling facilities in Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Palm Jumeirah, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Design District and IMPZ among others.
