HLS and DSI joint venture wins MEP contract for Al Habtoor City

A joint venture between Habtoor Leighton Specon (HLS) and Drake & Scull International (DSI) has been awarded a US$109.7mn project to complete mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems for the Al Habtoor City project in Dubai

According to a statement issued by HLS, the contract awarded to the company amounts to US$56.1mn.

The Al Habtoor City project, with a total build area of about 390,000 sq metres and 27,000 sq metres of Provencal-style gardens, will comprise a fashion hotel, W, a luxury hotel, St Regis, and the main hotel, Westin. It will also house a 1,400-seat Las Vegas-style aqua theatre and three large basement levels, among other facilities.

The US$1.3bn development, that will be situated on Sheikh Zayed Road near the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Mall, has been scheduled for completion in 2016.

Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) is the main contractor for the Al Habtoor City project and HLS is the MEP arm of the group.

HLS managing director Thrasos Thrasyvoulou said, ?We have successfully worked with the Al Habtoor Group in the past. This project takes the value of our awarded contracts in 2013 to over US$460mn, solidifying our position as one of the leading MEP players in the region.?

DSI CEO Khaldoun Tabari said, ?We are confident that our combined efforts and commitment to excellence will satisfy the very high standards of this iconic landmark and will allow us to complete the project on time.?

HLS has recently worked with operators such as Jumeirah, Movenpick, Millennium, Kempinski, Rotana, Shangri-La, Ritz Carlton, Merweb and Marriott. The company is currently completing the Daman Towers hotel and residential towers in Dubai.
