UAE nuclear plants construction to start in July

nuclear-plantKorea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) has announced that construction work on four UAE nuclear power plants will commence on July 1, 2012

President and CEO of KEPCO, Kim Joong-kyum, confirmed the new start date for construction work, Reuters reported. The July start date is four months earlier than had originally been planned. The date will still need regulatory approval by June 30, with completion scheduled for 2017-2020.

Joong-kyum also added that KEPCO would begin talks with the UAE next year to build four extra nuclear plants, to be completed by 2021, and that they were looking to conclude negotiations by the end of next year.

The four new nuclear power plants would be in addition to the existing deal for four reactors.
