Tunnel drilling works for the Dubai Metro extension, dubbed as the Route 2020 Project, is now 50 per cent complete, Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the board of executive directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said
The project spans 15km from Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station up to the site of the Dubai Expo 2020.
The Tunnel Boring Machine, Al Wugeisha Expo 2020, reached the underground station near Jumeirah Golf Estates, last February and will continue up to the Dubai Investment Park.
Tunnelling work on the project is scheduled for completion in December and the first of the new metro carriages are expected to arrive in July.
The rail works on the route are slated to finish in July 2019 and the RTA will start test runs in February 2020.
