The ?Start Up Energy Transition? (SET) initiative has nominated top 100 list (#SET100) of international start-ups of the energy transition

The #SET100 companies will present themselves at the 24th World Energy Congress, the flagship triennial event of the World Energy Council, taking place Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 9-12 September 2019. Under the theme of ?Energy for Prosperity,? the conference will connect to a wide range of audience to take ideas to the next level while strengthening and promoting an innovation ecosystem.

The 100 cleantech start-ups have applied for this year's SET award, an international award for innovative business models in the areas of energy transition and climate protection. The SET award is presented by the German Energy Agency (dena), in cooperation with the World Energy Council.

The final round of the competition will take place on 9 April 2019, at the SET Tech Festival in Berlin.

The companies on the #SET100 list represent 31 countries including Europe (53), North America (16) and Africa (11). Most of the companies are active in the competitive categories of low-carbon energy production, energy efficiency and smart devices and storage. Other nominees applied in the categories of intelligent grids, platforms and cybersecurity, quality access and SDG7 and innovative mobility.

Start-ups from Africa are particularly well-represented in the special prize category with six applications. A total of 450 start-ups from 80 countries applied for the SET award 2019.

Andreas Kuhlmann, chief executive at dena, said, ?The challenge of achieving the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement is great, but it holds immense opportunities. The companies on the #SET100 list show how we can move forward with innovation and entrepreneurship.?

?With the SET initiative, we offer promising start-ups an international platform to become better known and attract investors and other supporters,? Kuhlmann added.

Christoph Frei, secretary general of the World Energy Council, commented, ?Partnering with dena, we work together to systematically identify the most promising innovation ventures around the world and work with leading innovators to understand scope, time frame and success factors of major innovation areas.?

The 24th World Energy Congress is one of the leading, longest-running and most influential energy gatherings across the world. The conference is set to cover the entire energy spectrum to provide the industry?s most diverse conversation.
