Volvo Penta will unveil its first Stage V engine for mobile gensets ? D16 at Middle East Electricity (MEE), taking place from 5-7 March 2019

The flagship D16 is a premium dual speed engine, switchable between 1,500 rpm (50 Hz) and 1,800 rpm (60 Hz) and delivering 570kWm and 596kWm respectively.

Volvo Penta?s mobile genset meets the CARB/EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V requirements for engines above 560kW with the same hardware and software, as well as being EU RoHS2 compliant. Together, the dual speed and combined certificate features aim to make warehouse management easier for genset OEM customers.

?In the new Volvo Penta Stage V D16 engine for mobile gensets, customers have a simple and cost-effective solution that is based on proven and mature concepts already existing today across the Volvo Group,? said Kristian Vekas, product manager for genset engines at Volvo Penta.

In addition, the D16 aims to employ a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) solution, removing the need for a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system. Therefore, the engine delivers around three per cent better fuel economy, compared to Stage III A, because all the fuel burned by the engine is used to generate power in the drive shaft.

This emissions control solution focuses on cutting down on the number of components needed, which makes the D16 a compact engine with lower maintenance requirements, delivering improved total cost of ownership.

Besides launching the Stage V D16, Volvo Penta will discuss the current power generation engine range, to help customers achieve their business goals under the theme ?Power of Independence? during MEE 2019.
