Emirates to launch direct Milan to New York flights

Dubai-based airline Emirates will launch daily direct flights between Milan and New York, the carrier?s first direct service between North America and Europe

The new service, an extension of Emirates three daily flights to Milan, will boost the number of Emirates flights to New York to three daily.

Set to begin operations on 1 October 2013 and operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, the service will originate in Dubai with a stopover in Milan en-route to New York.

Tim Clark, president of Emirates, said, ?Operating a trans-Atlantic route has been on our agenda for some time.

?Having carefully monitored traffic flows we have identified strong demand for both a direct connection. The route is currently under-served. We intend to capitalise on this opportunity, stimulating further demand and encouraging additional traffic flow in both directions.?

In addition to the existing passenger market between Milan and New York, Emirates has timed its flight schedule to ensure maximum connectivity for other key feeder markets. Passengers will be able to connect from points across the US, including the West Coast, via Emirates partner JetBlue, and throughout Europe, via easyJet.

In addition to passenger services, Emirates SkyCargo will offer a total of 38 tonnes of freight capacity between both cities everyday.
