Tender floated for Oman airport radar system

Oman?s Ministry of Transport and Communications has floated a tender for a radar system for Salalah airport as part of an ongoing expansion programme

The tender board will open the bids on 9 December 2013, according to the ministry.

The airport expansion is expected to be complete by the end of 2013 and commissioning and testing of all facilities and equipment will commence by early 2014.

According to the plans, the first phase will have a one million passenger handling capacity, which will go up to two million in the second phase and six million in the third phase.

The airport will also have car parking facilities for 2,000 cars and will have International Air Transport Association (IATA) level A service standards and will be capable of landing Airbus A380 planes. The runway will be 4,000 metres long.

The expanded Salalah airport will be able to play host to the latest aircrafts in the world.
