Alstom wins Riyadh metro project contract

The Riyadh Development Authority (ADA) has awarded Alstom a contract for the construction of an automatic and driverless metro system on three lines of the Riyadh metro project

The total value of this project, financed by the Saudi Arabian government through the Public Investment Fund, has amounted to more than US$7bn of which Alstom?s share represents more than US$1bn. The project will include an option for 10 years of maintenance services. The contract is expected to be signed within the next two to three months.

The project will include the rolling stock, signaling system, energy recovery system, as well as the fast-track laying technology, Appitrack, which installs tracks three times faster than traditional methods.

Alstom Transport president Henri Poupart-Lafarge said, ?We are honoured to have been selected by the city of Riyadh to support this major project, which will allow thousands of people to travel every day in clean, comfortable and safe conditions.?

Metropolis trains and the infrastructure components for the Riyadh project will be produced at Alstom Transport?s sites in Europe.
