Engineering firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has bagged a contract worth US$161.5mn in Saudi Arabia for construction work on Riyadh Metro lines

The contract has been bagged from a consortium of Bechtel, Almabani, CCC and Siemens (BACS), to construct ballastless tracks for Riyadh Metro 1 and 2 on design and build basis, according to the company statement.

?This order has been won against stiff international competition and is in sync with L&T?s strategy to expand their railway business into the Middle East,? the company added.

The project involves the construction of 62.86 km of double ballastless tracks in tunnels, viaducts, at-grade sections and three depots and is scheduled to be completed in 40 months.

The BACS consortium will be responsible for the design and build of Lines 1 and 2 of the Riyadh Metro network. These two lines will form part of the six-line metro system that will run for a total length of 176 km across the city and includes 85 stations
