US-based logistics service provider NewPort Tank Containers has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Etihad Rail in the UAE
Al Marouzei, acting CEO of Etihad Rail, said, ?We look forward to facilitating the safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of NewPort?s shipping services in the UAE and adjoining regions.?
According to the MoU, NewPort Tank Containers will use railway as a transport solution for its shipping and logistics services in the UAE. Officials from NewPort Containers stated that the company supports the growth of intermodal transport services for greater efficiency and speed.
?Rail transport is ideal for handling materials in bulk quantities, and allows us to enhance our service efficiency in the region. The Etihad Rail network will play an important role in helping us provide our customers with a complete package of superior logistics and cost efficient services,? said Pim van den Doel, general manager (Middle East and India) of NewPort Tank Containers.
Etihad Rail, which is currently under construction in the UAE, is being built in three phases and will span 1,200km. Upon completion, the railway will cater to freight and passengers, with a goal to boost logistics and transport in the region.
