Iran?s steel exports grow by 26 per cent

A majority of Iranian steel producers exported 5.11mn tonnes of semi-finished and finished steel products from 21 March 2017- 21 December 2017, registering a 26 per cent growth in comparison to the same period in 2016, according to Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organisation

The export volume the ninth month stood at 529,348 tonnes, up 10 per cent year-on-year (YOY).

According to Financial Tribune, Khouzestan Steel Company (KSC) exported about 1.94mn tonnes of slab, bloom and billet during the given period, thus registering a 46 per cent rise YOY. With this, Khouzestan remained Iran?s biggest steel exporter.

KSC shipped about 861,726 tonnes bloom, up 150 per cent YOY. The export of billet came next with 613,242 tonnes, up 16 per cent from the previous year, followed by slabs with 499,452 tonnes, up five per cent YOY. However, in the ninth month, KSC?s shipments dropped two per cent to reach 239,037 tonnes.

Mohammad Keshani, manager of KSC, said that the company aims to export 2.2mn tonnes of steel product in 2018.

Esfahan Steel Company was the second biggest exporter during the nine months with 805,434 tonnes of beam, rebar, coils and other products. The company experienced an increase of 87 per cent YOY from the previous time period.

Hormozgan Steel Company shipped about 851,138 tonnes of slabs, up five per cent YOY. Mobarakeh Steel Company, the parent company of Hormozgan, stood at fourth place, as it shipped a total of 784,612 tonnes of tin-plated, coated, checkered and galvanised flat steel during the given time period, down by 43 per cent YOY, according to the source.

Among the other producers, South Kaveh Steel Company exported 548,000 tonnes, with Khorasan Steel Company standing next with 81,623 tonnes, Iran Alloy Steel Company with 58,712 tonnes and Khouzestan Oxin Steel Company with 7,469 tonnes of export.
