Metso provides mineral processing solutions to help mines and quarries improve safety and energy efficiency, while lowering costs per tonne and emissions
The Finland-headquartered company exhibited its technology at the recently-concluded MENA Mining Show 2015 which was held in Dubai from 6-7 October. To show the efficacy of its solutions, Metso used case studies to show the results gained for in-pit crushing and conveying, and minerals processing.
To help mines and quarries reduce costs and emissions as well as prevent traffic-related injuries, Metso offers a wide portfolio of in-pit crushing and conveying solutions ranging from stationary installations to fully mobile Lokotrack plants and Lokolink conveyors.
In a fully mobile in-pit crushing and conveying system, an excavator loads material directly into the hopper of a mobile crushing plant, instead of feeding a dump truck. Crushed rock is then transported to an in-pit belt conveyor via mobile conveyors, and onwards to the secondary plant, thereby completely removing the need for dump trucks.
Crushing and properly sorting the waste rock in the pit also enables its use as backfill and for other site infrastructure purposes. Preventing waste rock from entering the subsequent phases of the process, such as grinding, also has significant impacts on the profit per tonne.
Metso optimised the copper and molybdenum production for a client in Turkey. In a three-step process, pumps were changed to increase capacity of slurry throughput, the flotation cells were adapted to the new capacity, and the process was balanced out with VisioFroth, a system that measures parameters correlated to flotation cell performance. As a result, the client is now expecting a three to five per cent improvement in copper and molybdenum recovery.
