Luxembourg-based Traxys Europe has signed contract with Oman?s Strategic and Precious Metals Processing (SPMP), a partnership that is aimed at supplying antimony-gold concentrates to the Oman Antimony Roaster (OAR), which is being constructed in the freezone of the SOHAR Port
As per the partnership programme, SPMP will get access to Traxys? resources and global expertise on minor metal concentrate sourcing and supply chain logistics management.
Emin Eyi, chief executive of SPMP, commented that through this agreement, SPMP is aiming at providing clean, sustainable and environment-friendly antimony resources to global consumers.
Eyi said, ?Work has already commenced with the Traxys team in identifying and approaching major suppliers of antimony and antimony-gold concentrates at a time when some 50 per cent of China?s antimony smelters are shuttered pending environmental concerns.?
The Oman Antimony Roaster, SPMP?s joint-venture project, is being constructed as a commercial plant, with a capacity to produce around 20,000 tonnes of antimony products per annum and recover more than 50,000 ounces of associated gold.
Alan Docter, chairman of Traxys, stated that the company is looking forward to provide industry expertise and solutions to help in the project?s development in Sohar.
With more than 20 offices worldwide, Traxys provides logistics and supply chain management solutions of base metals and concentrates, minor and alloying metals, industrial minerals, chemicals and materials for steel mills for a variety of customers.
The export of antimony, which is used in a number of industrial, electronic and plastics sectors, has been dominated by China to the major economies of Europe, the USA and Japan for a long time.
SPMP said that with the completion of the OAR project, which will be the world?s first major antimony roaster outside of China, Oman is expected to meet the demand for antimony products from global customers.
