Bids from six international consortia have pre-qualified for Abu Dhabis Al Mirfa independent water and power project
The plant, which has been commissioned by Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA), has been designed to produce 1,600MW of power and 52.5mn gallons of desalinated water per day.
Abdulla Saif AL Nuaimi, director-general of ADWEA, said,"We will assess the bids and expect to sign a contract with the winning consortium by July, while other contracts and agreements relating to the bid shall be signed by September 15."
The winning consortium is the 10th project to be built under a public-private partnership deal under a build-operate-transfer model in Abu Dhabi and was part of the emirate's effort to meet an increasing demand for power and water.
