Oman LNG has signed two contracts to develop a new gas engine power plant at the company?s Qalhat facilities
The first with Germany?s MAN Diesel & Turbo will see the delivery of gas engine design, manufacturing and supply of equipment. The second contract with KBR will see the expansion of Oman LNG?s project team and manage the overall execution of the project, including the supply of the gas engines generators and ensuring safety requirements.
According to Oman LNG, the agreements are crucial to delivering the company?s gas engine driven power plant in the country, which is the first of its kind for the country?s LNG applications.
The contracts are in line with the company?s ambitious aim to develop a shared platform with international leaders to share knowledge and boost staff competency in complex projects.
With the rapid change of energy landscape, energy companies are required to develop advanced practices to remain reliable to their customers. Oman seeks to boost its LNG sector to diversify the economy and emerge as one of the largest income earners for the sultanate.
The agreements were signed by Harib Al Kitani, CEO of Oman LNG; Wayne Jones, chief sales officer of MAN Diesel and Turbo; and Jay Ibrahim, president at KBR.
Oman LNG is a joint venture where the government of Oman holds 51 per cent interest. The other stakeholders include Shell Gas (30 per cent), France?s Total (5.54 per cent), Korea LNG (five per cent), Mitsubishi Corporation (2.77 per cent) etc.
