With an aim to help in enhancing Iraq?s energy supply, Siemens has signed a contract with the country?s Ministry of Electricity

Under the agreement, Siemens will provide the maintenance and upgrade services of seven power generating units inside four power plants located in South Basra, Salah El Deen, Middle Region and Middle Euphrates.

With approximately 15,700MW of available power generation capacity, the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity aims to improve the availability and reliability of power supply, with minimising power losses.

According to the Iraqi ministry, this service project with Siemens is expected to support the nation?s industrial development plans and meet its growing population?s demand for power.

Commenting on the agreement, Gianluigi Di Giovanni, senior executive vice-president of Siemens Power Generation Services in the Middle East, said, ?The upgrade of the power plants will not only increase the reliability of the plants, but also will improve the efficiency and generation capacity.?

Siemens will also carry out critical service and maintenance works across the four power plants. The outage and upgrade services are seen to enhance the reliability and efficiency of these units, helping them collectively generate more than 1,000MW of power, which is 400MW more than today?s power generation, and save up to 10 per cent in fuel consumption.

?This is enough to supply approximately three million Iraqi people with reliable electricity,? according to Siemens.

Siemens will also supply spare parts and provide manpower training to enhance energy efficiency in the country.
