FEWA launches substation to boost power supply

UAE?s Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) has inaugurated a substation in Umm al-Quwain for US$35.3mn

The 270 kVA substation includes a 132 kV switchgear room containing nine 132 kV connection feeders and three switchgears, with 132/33 kV transformers in addition to three 132/33 kV transformers, said FEWA.

The new station will be connected to Al-Rifaa station in Ras Al Khaimah to boost interconnection grid in UAE, added the organisation.

Additionally, there will also be a 33 kV switchgear room with 18 33 kV feeders and three switchgears room with 132/33 kV transformers and three switchgear for connection with 33/11 kV transformers. It also includes a 11 kV switchgear room with 24 11 kV feeders and three switchgears for connection with 33/11 kV transformers.

The substation also includes 11 kVA capacitors, control and communication rooms.

FEWA officials added that the new substation is expected to cater to current and future industrial needs of Umm al-Quwain upto 2021.
