Food and beverage company Agthia Group announced on Monday that it had entered into a solar lease agreement with Yellow Door Energy to establish two 5 megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power plants

The company said that the two solar PV plants will be situated at the two production facilities of Agthia subsidiaries, Al Ain Water and Al Foah Dates, respectively. Over their 25-year operating life, the two plants will produce 287,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy and cut 124,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, Agthia said.

It also stated that the project will offset nearly 20% of the factories' annual energy consumption. The project's expense was not revealed.

With 80 companies across six countries, YDE has more than 200MWp of projects in its portfolio.

Alan Smith, group chief executive officer of Agthia Group, said, "Food processors and manufacturers have significant hurdles in balancing safety and quality requirements with sustainable production techniques while boosting energy efficiency. By introducing solar into our energy mix, we significantly lower the carbon footprint associated with operations in these two locations."
