Bahrain?s Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning signed an agreement with a consortium of three contracting companies ? WTE Water Technology, Azmeel Contracting Company and Tekton Engineering and Construction ? to implement the fourth expansion project of Tubli wastewater treatment plant (WTP)
Minister Issam bin Abdullah Khalaf said this is the fourth expansion process since the plant was launched in the early 1980s. It aimed at upgrading the sewage facilities to meet the urban development and population increase rate by increasing the capacity from 200,000 cu/m to 400,000 cu/m per day.
He added the expansion would improve the performance of Tubli Plant, consequently would contribute to preserving the environment and the wildlife in Tubli Bay, in addition to increasing the production of the treated water used for irrigation and agricultural beautification. The expansion project will also include the construction of residue disposal facilities.
The Saudi Fund for Development and the Kuwait Fund for Economic Development are funding the expansion project within the GCC Development Programme for Bahrain. The project cost is US$366mn and will be implemented over 36 months, followed by two months for operational testing.
