Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a US$67mn contract for a water reservoir project at Lusaily to an unspecified contractor

The Lusaily reservoir, which will have a storage capacity of 120mn gallons of desalinated water, will expand Dubai's total capacity to 723mn gallons, the authority said in a statement.

?This project is part of DEWA?s strategy and efforts to support and enhance water transmission networks and increase quantities of water flow to meet the rapid growth and demand for water all over the Emirate,? said DEWA chief executive officer Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

?The project includes constructing, testing and commissioning two reinforced concrete reservoirs with capacity of 60mn gallons each and connecting them to pipelines and the existing reservoir. It is estimated that the progress of works will be on schedule, and it is expected to be finished within 20 months.

"Then, the total storage capacity will reach 723mn gallons in comparison with 603mn gallons at present,? added Al Tayer.
