DSI unit wins US$48.7 million contract in Egypt

According to DSI, its subsidiary Passavant-Roediger, in a consortium with Spain?s Acciona and Egypt?s Hassan Allam Sons, will oversee the development of the second stage of the Gabal Al Asfar Waste Water Treatment Plant (GAAWWTP) project in Cairo.

This includes building a primary and secondary plant with a capacity to treat 500,000 cubic metres (cu m) of water per day. The aim of developing a second phase to this project is to raise the total daily water treatment capacity at the site to 2.5mn cu m.

The contract won by the entire consortium is worth about US$148.4mn.

DSI said the second stage of the GAAWWTP project will be completed in four years and that the consortium of Passavant-Roediger, Acciona and Hassan Allam Sons will oversee its operations and maintenance for two years.

Passavant-Roediger managing director Dr Mazen Bachir said, ?The phase two of GAWWTP project is part of an ongoing initiative to address the national issue of reuse of waste water. Our consortium was awarded the bid based on the reputation of our waste water treatment technology, which gives us clear framework and strong resources to undertake a project of this nature.?

DSI acquired Passavant-Roediger, an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm, in 2009 to enhance its capabilities in the region?s water and waste water services sector. Passavant-Roediger has its operations spread across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
