Babcock Borsig Service Kuwait (BBS) has been awarded a US$10.6 million contract by the Kuwait Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) for refurbishment work on distillation units at the Shuwaikh Power and Distillation Station
The contract covers the Shuwaikh facility's three distillation units, which each have a capacity of 6?million imperial gallons per day.
The scope of the project will include design, procurement, manufacturing, supply of parts and material, dismantling, refurbishment, testing, commissioning and maintenance services over a period of three years.
"With this contract, BBS will make a significant contribution towards the MEW's aim to deliver an essential water supply to Kuwait's residents," said?Dr Thomas Suckut?chief executive officer at?BBS's parent company?Deutsche Babcock Middle East.
BBS will propose an increase in the efficiency/output package for three distillers using the company's patented Steam Recirculation System?(STRT)?and?Improved Brine Recirculation Circuit (BRIC).
This awarded contract forms part of Kuwait?s plan to raise the desalinated water capacity within the next five years from 490 million gallons per day to 700 million gallons per day.
