French company Saint-Gobain PAM has signed two contracts worth US$268mn with Al Jaber Engineering to work on a major reservoirs project run by Qatar General Electricity and Water Cooperation (Kahramaa)
The contracts will see the supply of large diameter pipes, fittings and valves to Kahramaa?s ?security mega reservoirs? project, and any Saint-Gobain products will be manufactured in France.
The aim of the project is to provide Qatar with a seven-day supply of emergency drinking water, in order to preserve the country?s water quality in line with Kahramaa and World Health Organisation (WHO) standards.
The reservoirs and pipelines network, expected to be completed in 2016, will provide up to 17mn cu/m of potable water storage.
This will be achieved through the construction of five large reservoir sites and approximately 200km of large diameter ring mains. The reservoir sites will be located at Umm Birka, Umm Slal, Al Thumama, Rawdhat Rashid, and Abu Nakhla.
