Economic growth in Saudi Arabia across areas such as petrochemicals and plastics, power, water and wastewater, infrastructure, and metals and mining, has caused a sharp increase in energy consumption
Substantial growth has been experienced in the building of technologies such as heating ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC), lighting, and mechanical-electrical-plumbing (MEP) systems as a result of the construction boom and increasing investments in real estate in Saudi Arabia.
According to Frost & Sullivan the rise in energy consumption must be examined by developing new methods for energy efficiency.
Environmental and building technologies industry manager, Kumar Ramesh, said, ?Greener equipment should start making inroads into the Saudi Arabian market.
"If Saudi Arabia implements energy-efficiency programmes as proposed by the electricity advisor, demand for products such as programmable thermostats, energy-efficient HVAC equipment, and other associated services and solutions is expected to increase.?
In a bid to rationalise energy consumption in the country, techniques have been suggested by Frost & Sullivan, such as upgrading existing systems including controls, sensors, building management systems, and performance contracting models, along with utilising energy-efficient products and systems.
