The WaterWorld Middle East conference and exhibition will help governments in the Gulf meet the infrastructure demands of their growing populations, announced Dr Hisham Khatib, honorary vice-chairman of the World Energy Council
Running alongside POWER-GEN Middle East, WaterWorld Middle East will run from 12-14 October at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) and promises to bring together the region?s leading plant owners and operators, consultants, investors, and academics.
Khatib said, ?By bringing cutting-edge technology together with industry experts, WaterWorld Middle East is a superb forum to promote sustainable water infrastructure development in the region.?
Driven by population growth, Abu Dhabi?s demand for drinking water and subsequent sanitation services are expected to double between now and 2030, according to exhibition officials.
Tom Freyberg, WaterWorld Middle East conference director, commented, ?WaterWorld Middle East comes at a crucial time for the GCC, when local governments are looking to invest over US$130bn over the next decade to meet water and energy demands.?
Major projects currently underway in Abu Dhabi include Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company?s (ADSSC) Strategic Tunnel Enhancement Programme (STEP). STEP intends to treble the capitals? current collection capacity and, once complete, will be one of the world?s largest tunnelled sewerage systems.
ADSSC managing director Alan Thomson stated, ?The Middle East offers exciting business opportunities for the global water industry.?
