The project will include the construction of an advanced hospital, a petrochemical plant and residential villas.

Gammon Group chairman Mohammed Rafik revealed that the project would cover an area of 20mn square metres.

Rafik said, ?Our group will design, finance and build the new city. The project will include a complete modern medical city to cater for the growing population and will include medical training facilities.?

Rabigh has several industries such as an Arabian Cement factory, an electricity station that supports Makkah and Madinah, and a large refinery belonging to Saudi Aramco. King Abdullah Economic City is under construction about 40km from Rabigh.

The Rabigh project will be part of Saudi Arabia?s US$500bn investment programme to build six new cities that will double housing and commercial hubs for the country?s growing population. These new centres will be home to five million people by 2020 and will be expected to create one million jobs.
