Construction company RMD Kwikform has agreed to supply formwork and shoring facilities for the upcoming Mall of Egypt at 6th of October City in western Cairo

The 162,500 sq m mall, developed by Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Properties, is being reckoned the sister brand to Dubai?s Mall of Emirates.

According to reports, the construction contract of the structure is worth US$400mn and was awarded to a joint venture (JV) between Orascom Construction and BESIX Group. The project is worth US$800mn, and will feature international fashion and lifestyle retail brands, a ski park, 17-screen cinema, family entertainment centre and more than 50 food and beverage outlets.

George Kostas, CEO of MAF has stated that the mall will be completed by January 2016. Despite reports of ongoing unrest in Egypt, authorities are keen to finish the project before the deadline.

In order to speed up the construction, RMD Kwikform designers have drawn up plans and drawings of the Ski Park, which will be constructed within the mall.

One of the key challenges was casting a sloping slab and pyramidal piers for the Ski Park so RMD's engineers identified design solutions. Instead of using timber wedges and steel supports to create the 12-degree slope, the engineering team utilised the standard Rapidshor Tilt Head, traditionally used with the Rapidshor shoring system, stated officials from RMD Kwikform.

Mohamed El Gammal, regional sales manager, RMD Kwikform DBME, said, ?For a largescale project of this type, it is all about safety, speed and simplicity. By working with the Besix Orascom JV team at the early stages of planning, we were able to identify and source the right amount of equipment needed for the project, in addition to engineering safe and time-saving solutions.?
