UAE's DSI wins US$16 million contract in India

UAEs Drake and Scull International (DSI) has won a US$16mn contract in India, to provide turnkey mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) solutions for real estate developer Lodha Group?s New Cuffe Parade project in Mumbai

The New Cuffe Parade project in south Mumbai is an upcoming mixed-use development, comprising 15 acres of recreational space, five gardens, a clubhouse, an organic farm and an amphitheatre, among other developments.

DSI will undertake MEP works for four towers in this project. The company did not divulge any details on when it would commence MEP works on site.  

The contractor said it is looking to enhance its presence in India in the coming days. Earlier this year, DSI worked on a US$25mn thermal coal power project in eastern India and a solar power project in Tamil Nadu. Currently, it has projects worth US$67mn in India.

DSI chief executive officer Khaldoun Tabari said, ?We are achieving significant progress with our expansion drive in India, where the government has launched widespread initiatives to speed up private investment in the infrastructure sector. DSI is well-positioned to provide expertise in the hospitality, aviation, railways, urban infrastructure, thermal and renewable energy, and the water sectors.?

Tabari added that he expected to secure more projects in India through 2014 and that the Asian country would soon become one of its major markets.
