Mohammed bin Rashid inaugurates US$160mn Dubai Intelligent Traffic Systems Centre, Al Barsha

In order to meet the needs of Dubais rapid urban growth and infrastructure expansion required for Expo 2020, the centre was constructed at a cost of US$160mn, and was inaugurated by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai

The facility is one of the biggest and most advanced traffic control centres in the world, in terms of smart technology. 

The centre, employing smart technologies and software to ease mobility across Dubai, expands the intelligent traffic systems' coverage in the Emirate from 11% to 60% and will improve the detection time of road incidents and anticipate congestion.

 Sixty operators have been qualified and deployed to manage an operate the system following specialist training courses, and 112 dynamic message signs have been adapted to fit messages to motorists and deter congestion and incidents.

 Additionally, 116 additional cameras have been installed, raising the total to 245. 100 extra incident and vehicle monitoring devices were installed, making 235 devices in total. 

The project has so far contributed to reducing traffic fatalities by 42%, increasing traffic flow by 5.5% on certain roads, and achieving a public satisfaction rating of 99%.
