The UAE?s Khalifa Port Container Terminal operator Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) has completed handling two million TEU (20-foot-equivalent units) since the port opening in December 2012

According to the company, the TEU accomplishment surpasses the initial target and represents a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in containers handled by it at Khalifa Port Container Terminal.

This throughput milestone is driven by a strong increase in both import and export items with volume growth alongside continued high demand from local and global customers, it added.

Martijn van de Linde, CEO of ADT, has attributed the increase of Khalifa Port?s container traffic to the efficiency and productivity at Khalifa Port and strong support from the shipping and logistics community that have made Khalifa Port as their hub.

?Passing this latest record demonstrates the extremely robust position of Khalifa Port Container Terminal due to its diverse and increasing trade base, strategic location and significant hinterland connections,? added the executive.

Gary Lemke, executive vice-president of Ports, Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), added that Khalifa Port is successfully driving business growth across the Emirate.

?The port?s growing network of services, ease of doing business and supply chain connectivity is clearly supporting ADT?s 20 per cent year-on-year growth as import/export trade increases,? Lemke noted.
