Qatar port deal won by Chinese company

China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) said it had won a US$880 million port foundation and breakwater construction project in Qatar New Doha Port.

The project includes construction of a container wharf, general cargo wharf, naval forces wharf, and breakwater. The work is expected to be complete in 54 months.

"As for structural type, the wharf is a gravity type block wharf. The waterline of the wharf is 7,845m long and 6,500m3 of earth and stone will be excavated," CHEC said in a statement.

The Doha Port is the country's largest port - located just off the Doha Corniche, it is the main seaport servicing Doha.

CHEC is a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company, which has 31 overseas branches and offices with business activities covering more than 70 countries and areas.
