Technip consortium awarded Yemen power contract

Technip, a leader in oil and gas project management, in association with Hawk International, has been awarded by Total E&P Yemen, a lump sum turnkey contract for the Kharir Power Plant Project.

The Kharir field is located in the Block 10 of East Shabwa, Yemen. The project covers the engineering, procurement, supply, construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning as well as assistance to start-up and performance test of 40-MW power plant (expandable to 100MW).

The power plant will utilize the gas associated with oil production in Kharir field to produce electrical power for the industrial facilities and operations within the field. It will include two dual-fuel turbine generators, a fuel gas compressor, containerized substations, transformers, utilities and control / safety systems.

Technip's operating center in Abu Dhabi will be responsible for the overall project management, engineering, procurement and commissioning. Hawk International will be responsible for site management, construction and pre-commissioning activities. The project started on October 10, 2010 with a 23-month schedule.
