ABB technology has announced to support in developing new smart solar power systems in Dubai, to increase year-round solar energy production as part of smart Dubai initiative
Dubai Electric and Water Authority (DEWA) said that it is using the ABB AbilityTM electrical distribution control system for the development of the solar system.
DEWA will deploy the ABB AbilityTM electrical distribution control system to monitor production at ABB?s Al Quoz photovoltaic solar system. The 312kW installation is one of the largest privately owned solar rooftops in the region. The cloud-based platform focuses on integrating the power production data with other information, such as weather forecasts and actual rooftop temperatures.
The ABB AbilityTM electrical distribution control system is a cloud-based platform for electrical systems that focus on identifying optimisation opportunities and enabling remote implementation of effective power management strategies.
Smart Dubai is the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
Commenting about the smart Dubai initiative, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of DEWA, said, ?The vision also sets out a clear path for government organisations to initiate the transition towards the digital era by developing and enhancing their services to meet people?s demands and achieve their happiness.?
?We seek to promote Dubai as a smart, sustainable and integrated city with high-tech infrastructure to support social and economic development as well as promote sustainable use of resources by ensuring best practices in consumption, efficiency and governance,? he added.
Dubai aims to generate 25 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030 and the development of a viable solar power market is import to achieve this, he further explained. DEWA focus on introducing digital innovations that will help to manage the city?s energy consumption and production with smart grids and smart meters.
