DEWA awards water pipeline contracts worth US$67.52mn in Dubai

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a contract worth US$67.52mn for the construction of a 40km water pipeline project along Al Qudra Streets, aiming to increase the supply of electricity and water in the areas across the lines, in Dubai

The project, which is expected to be completed in 30 months, includes the expansion of 600-1,200mm of diameter of the main water pipes, up to 40km in length, along Al Qudra Streets and the Dubai to Al Ain highway.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO and managing director of DEWA, said that the purpose of the water pipeline project is to increase water flow capacity to the development projects in these areas.

The project will also include a pipeline along Emirates Road, which will increase the water flow capacity of Khawaneej 2. In addition, the project consists of the commissioning of additional pipelines in other parts of Dubai, aiming to increase water supply at the time of emergencies.

Al Tayer said, ?The project includes several sites for connecting main transmission pipelines, to increase water flow, ensure the continuity of water access, and raise the pressure in the network to keep pace with the increasing demand for water in those areas, according to planning approvals.?

?This supports our ambitious strategy and plans to meet the needs of the comprehensive development of electricity and water for the Dubai Plan 2021,? he stated.

Al Tayer further added, ?We to working to increase production and improve operational efficiencies, and increase the flow of water in several parts of Dubai, and as a contingency against any emergencies.?

The project also includes a remote control and monitoring systems for a continuous supervision of the main water transport network.

Al Tayer noted that the entire water transport network will be monitored by remote-controlled valves in the control centre, which contribute to the isolation of faults in the project, thereby reducing the loss of water in the network.
