Dubai Municipality and Unique Maritime Group launch sandstorm forecasting project

The Dubai Municipality and a division of offshore turnkey solutions provider Unique Maritime Group unveiled a new sandstorm forecasting project at the Gitex Technology 2013 exhibition at Dubai World Trade Centre

According to a statement by the company, its division Unique System FZE has built a platform for the Dubai Municipality that would provide real-time monitoring alerts, warnings and 3D imagery on sandstorms in the region and disseminate this information to concerned departments of the government.

The data procured would be verified against geostationary and polar orbiting satellites, LiDAR and aerodrome reports, Unique Maritime Group said.

The sandstorm prediction project for the Dubai Municipality would be an extension to its existing Fog Monitoring and Forecasting System that was established in 2010.

Dubai Municipality director of survey department, Mohammed Mahmoud Mashroom, said, ?We are very proud with the initial results of this project. Dubai Municipality?s weather forecasting system will now have new buoys, cameras, rain gauges and sandstorm monitoring platforms.?

Unique System FZE general manager Ian Huggins said, ?We are proud to be working with Dubai Municipality on such innovative projects and being a part of this progressive set up for a safer and secure environment.?
