Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has started work on a project to improve efficiency and reliability of the water transmission network around Dubai
The project will provide infrastructure capable of meeting the requirements for development, including supply, installation and testing of surge protection devices in 13 water pumping and transmission stations in areas such as Jebel Ali, Mushrif and Hatta, announced DEWA. The total cost of the project is AED65mn (US$17.7mn).
?It is one of various development projects to raise the efficiency, reliability and operational capacity of Dubai?s water networks in order to improve the sustainable development of the Emirate,? said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA.
?The project involves installing systems that protect the network in the event of sudden power outages in pumping stations, which results in different water pressures across the network. This causes leaks and malfunctions in the main water network.
?This system absorbs the variations in water pressure in the network through special devices installed in the pumping stations which provide the necessary protection. The project is expected to be completed by June 2016,? Al Tayer added.
