Majis has signed a long-term supply deal with Orpic to provide cooling water at Sohar Industrial Port in Oman
Majis will supply cooling seawater from its second seawater pumping station (SWIPS 2) to the Sohar refinery improvement project (SRIP) and the Liwa Plastics Project (LPP).
The refinery improvement requires 50,000 cu/m per hour of seawater by December 2015 whereas LPP will be supplied 90,000 cu/m per hour by 2016.
Majis will also supply a further 35,000 cu/m per hour to LPP from Majis? combined cooling water system (CCWS). SWIPS 2 is being constructed on a fast-track basis to comply with SRIP?s programme of works.
When completed, SWIPS 1 & 2 with a capacity of almost 700,000 cu/m per hour will be one of the biggest seawater intakes in the GCC. Majis is also reportedly in discussion with Orpic to receive its treated effluent and to recycle it to produce process water.
