The MENA (Middle East North Africa) Water Forum has opened its doors to delegates in the UAE, and will discuss key issues pertaining to water supply in the GCC
The event, hosted by Abu Dhabi?s Sofitel Corniche hotel, will aim to tackle some of the challenges associated with the provision of water in the GCC by bringing together industry stakeholders and decision-makers to discuss potential solutions.
?Everyone knows that Arabia is one of the world?s most water-poor regions,? said Mena Water Forum chairman Edmund O?Sullivan. ?It has no permanently flowing rivers, practically no rain, limited groundwater reserves that are being overused and soaring demand.?
Organisers said the event will focus on three key issues affecting the GCC water sector; the decoupling of power generation from desalination production, increasing the use of treated sewage effluent (TSE) and water resource management.
There will also be a range of keynote speakers at the forum, including Tawfig Ja?afreh, secretary general of the Water Authority of Jordan; Dr. Mahmoud Abu-Zeid, president of the Arab Water Council and Atter Ezzat Hannoura, director of the PPP Central Unit in Egypt?s Ministry of Finance.
