Morocco has been granted a US$272mn loan by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for drinking water projects in Agadir and Chtouka Ait Baha

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the IDB group in Rabat by Mohamed Boussaid, minister of economy, and Ahmed Mohammed Ali, president of IDB group, according to agency reports.

The first project, which is expected to benefit over 1.5mn people, involves the reinforcement of drinking water conveyance structures in Agadir and to transfer water produced by the Tamri treatment plant.

According to Boussaid, it also involves the construction of drinking water supply systems for the rural communities in Chtouka Ait Baha.

The second project, which falls under the Green Morocco Plan, is expected to increase the income of small farmers three-fold and boost their productivity.
